CHARACTER
NAME: Ichiro Yamada
CANON: Hypnosis Mic!
CANON POINT: The drama track "Me Against the World": aka, just after the first division battle.
AGE: 19
BACKGROUND: here, though it's lacking in some things.

to add:

★ The world is in the middle of World War III, where the world's population has decreased by 1/3.

★ Enter Ichiro Yamada (17), oldest of three orphaned Yamada brothers, and also kind of an ass. However, he's doing dirty jobs in order to save money to raise his little brothers away from his foster father/their orphanage.

★ A coup happens in the final year of our era (AD) led by Otome Tohoten, using hypnosis microphones to overthrow the government and take charge as prime minister. Thus starts the "Rule of H", an era in which Japan is reshaped into a central district ("Chuuoku", for women) and "divisions" (for men) The women take weapons from men, citing their incompetence, and replace them with "hypnosis mics". This ends the war!

★ A year later in Ikebukuro, Ichiro's loan shark starts a rap crew called Stairway 2 Heaven. Ichiro works in a subdivision of S2H, Naughty Busters (smh) with his buddy Kuukou.

★ Ichiro works to try and take down Mad Comic Dialogue for S2H. The loan shark's plan was seedy enough--to lie to the members of MCD and weaken them so Mozuku could come take them out. Ichiro and Kuukou fight against the other division until all four members of the battle are so worn out they can't even stand. After Mozuku appears and reveals his plan, Samatoki Aohitsugi, a member of MCD, catches onto Ichiro's strength and tells him he's worth more than the way Mozuku/S2H treat him.

★ Ichiro seems to agree, because Mad Comic Dialogue and Naughty Busters team up and beat up Mozuku. He gets pissed, and in return, decides to force them to cooperate by kidnapping Ichiro's younger brothers (and Samatoki's sister.)

★ Samatoki and Ichiro end up working together to get their siblings back. We find out the head of the orphanage, Genchou, was also involved, and is taking great delight in trying to threaten the siblings/trying to just be a general terrible person.

★ Ichiro flips his shit.

★ Samatoki and Ichiro battle against Genchou and Mozuku, who are too strong at first. The two of them decide the only way they'll win is if they render Genchou and Mozuku useless...so they both grab a pair of chopsticks and stab their own goddamn eardrums out.

★ Jakurai Jinguji and Ramuda Amemura show up a little while later; the four of them battle together as the dirty dawg for the first time, and beat the crap out of Genchou and Mozuku. The siblings are saved!

That's about all we know now. Dirty Dawg breaks up for an unknown reason some time later: its a point of contention.

In the present, Ichiro creates a crew to battle in Chuuoku and gain territory for Ikebukuro Division. He teaches his two brothers to use hypnosis mics and forms Buster Bros!!!. The Yamada brothers go up against Mad Trigger Crew, Samatoki's new crew, but ultimately, Buster Bros!!! lose to MTC, and watch MTC fight Matenrou, where they eventually also go on to lose. RIP.

Eventually, Matenrou wins the Division Battle, Ichiro gets into a stupid fight with Samatoki, and Jakurai warns them not only of their old ex teammate Ramuda...but of their Naughty Busters/Mad Comic Dialogue old teammates as well too. (Who we just found out are in a new division!!!)

That's my canon point!

PERSONALITY: ore ga ichiro, you better know my steelo!

Once upon a time, the name "Ichiro Yamada" would send a shudder through anyone living in Ikebukuro. Back in the old days, Ichiro was a serious young man with some serious anger issues. His short temper and willingness to participate in the less than legal side of the law made him downright frightening to people far away, and even those closest to him. Not only was he terrifyingly talented with his hypnosis mic, but Ichiro was incredibly clever, too, and his intelligence and survival instinct made him a formidable opponent and gave him the ability to stand up as the youngest member of the dirty dawg. A young Ichiro was serious, guarded and careful, but he still had a soft heart, and cares for children and the weak--even then, he seemed to dislike bullies.

The Ichiro of those days is gone, now, but parts of him still remain. His intelligence, and his short temper are still present, but so too is what was underneath: Ichiro has the heart of a protagonist, who, more than anything, wants to do the best he can for his two little brothers, Jiro and Saburo. Though he lived as an orphan, we learn that the dirty jobs Ichiro once participated in were to gain money to save for his family; we also learn he wanted to finish high school and turns down alcohol, two other obvious delinquent activities. Ichiro is a goody two shoes at his heart who was bad by circumstance, and now, as an adult, he's gone from Ikebukuro's devil to its darling.

Nowadays, Ichiro still hates to see people being picked on and bullied, and does his best to help around Ikebukuro in whatever way possible. That serious shell has cracked: he's grown into a cheerful and warm young man who loves his brothers, his 'hood, and (embarrassingly) his animes. He works hard to support his brothers as the manager of Yamada Odd Jobs, and he's become a reliable source of information to other folks in the division. Ichiro has become (and perhaps always has been) someone you could rely on--he's also grown into quite the badass. His raps are full of well earned swagger, and he's got a type of coolness to him that's hard to match.

As the leader of Buster Bros!!, he defends his division from territory battles, all while raising Jiro and Saburo under his roof as their hot single dad guardian. You want to be in his favor: he's a good guy, a powerful ally, and a good friend. (Admittedly, we know he was not so loyal to one of his old best friends, but...well, we don't know the details of that quite yet.)

At his heart, Ichiro's still pretty young. He's only nineteen: though he's an adult, he's still emotional and passionate, and occasionally prone to fly into a rage. Ichiro is honest with his feelings and emotions, and doesn't bother to hide them. He literally cries over the plight of anime creators (yeah) in one of the dramas; he also gets flustered and embarrassed occasionally (in Ohayo Ikebukuro! we hear Ichiro asking his brothers to move on from a very embarrassing radio segment all about him...it's very cute.) He's also very stubborn, and won't back down from a challenge once it's been issued, even if it's something as stupid as a quiz battle in a sauna.

Ichiro is also a true protagonist, in that he's fully prepared to run into any situation where he feels like someone is being wronged, or to help. He's incredibly loyal to his neighborhood and the people who matter to him, and Ichiro will stand up for anyone if they're being knocked down, especially if it's undeserved. He's never met a challenge he couldn't handle, and he's willing to throw a punch the minute it's necessary to help people out, often at the cost of himself--at one point, he quite literally stabs out his own eardrums to keep someone from hurting him so he can save his little brothers.

Affectionate, tactile and warm, today's Ichiro is the best big brother you could ever ask for. Though Ichiro can still lose his temper (especially with their fighting), he does his best to be fair with the two of them, and raise them to be everything he wasn't. (with mixed success.) Family matters to him more than anything in the world: he would do literally anything to ensure their safety and well being, because his brothers are all he has. He tries to teach his brothers lessons, and acts often as their peacekeeper, able to mediate them...most of the time. Ichiro's unsure sometimes, but Ichiro is doing his best to raise his brothers and be their guardian as an adult.

However, "adult" is an operative word. Sure, he's trying to be responsible. But he's still short tempered and snaps easily, and heaven forbid you put him in front of his former mentor/teammate/friend/(???) Samatoki, because he instantly loses all of those cool mature big brother qualities and starts acting like a five year old. (See: them calling each other "siscon" and "brocon" over and over.) Ichiro even says that Samatoki makes his world narrow down to a point of rage, and it's such a sore topic that whatever happened with the Dirty Dawg is a quick way to make him snap. That being said, he's well relied on by the other members (Jakurai and Ramuda) and seems to get along well enough with them. It's only Samatoki that makes Ichiro see red.

And, it's not to say that Ichiro isn't still dangerous. It's the opposite: he practically snarls at Ichijiku when she gets in his face, and his rap lines are still aggressive. He even loses his temper with his brothers, but he's trying, and it's clear.

In the end, Ichiro is doing his best to repent for his behavior. Once a delinquent and now a hero, Ichiro just wants to represent Ikebukuro...and maybe read his light novels and manga in peace every once in a while.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
RAP SKILLS - you better know my steelo!
The most notable "power" that Ichiro possesses is an overall mastery of the most common type of weapon in his world, a hypnosis microphone. The microphone has the ability to control the brain waves of people who listen to it (when used well) and can cause internal damage (again, when used well) via the person's raps. Think like Wild'n Out, only like actually damaging instead of just hurting your ego.

Ichiro is considered a prodigy with his microphone. He received it at a young age (17) and was a member of The Dirty Dawg, considered one of the best groups in Japan. His style is ferocious and clever (mostly because he's voiced by an actual rapper, Kimura Subaru), and therefore can wield his hypnosis mic expertly.

THUG 101 - "ikebukuro's number one delinquent!"
Before the present, Ichiro was widely considered one of the scariest delinquents in Ikebukuro. From this we know in general he can hold his own in a fight with his fists, not just his words. I also assume he has general delinquency skills - pickpocketing, lock picking, jumping fences, et cetera.

He's also strong enough to literally throw a grown ass man through a window. So you know.

INVENTORY:
✪ his hypnosis microphone: it looks like a regular microphone, until ichiro grabs onto it.

✪ a copy of a light novel ("b-on!" or something equally embarrassing.)
